Cavett’s Lasting Legacy

"I like to feel I will leave certain ideas--whether they be in book form, in audiotape or videotape form, or in speeches I've made--that will make this world a little better and help people solve their problems.

I really do want to see the whole philosophy of speaking and writing continue, and I like to feel that I contributed a little bit to that.

I look back, and I want to make sure I contributed things that are helpful in people's living, not just in making money.

I think it's fine for people to get paid for the work they do, but I like to feel that I have influenced certain people who want to influence other people--kind of a ripple effect...on and on and on.

If you want to help people, you've 'gotta wanna'...you've got to have the passion of a lover, the fire of a crusader, the dedication of a saint and the perseverance of a martyr.

I'd like to feel I left the world a little better than it was when I entered it."
